A Utility Jacket with a Refined Leather Finish

This men’s dark brown goatskin leather jacket takes its character from traditional utility and field jackets. Three flap pockets, visible contrast stitching and a substantial pointed collar give it a practical, workwear-inspired appearance. The dark brown finish keeps the design versatile, making it easy to wear beyond purely casual outfits.

The jacket is made from approximately 0.8 mm goatskin leather. In the product photographs, the surface has a soft, matte appearance with natural-looking changes in tone across the body and sleeves. These variations prevent the brown from appearing flat and help bring attention to the jacket’s panel construction.

If dark, earthy colours are what you normally wear, this jacket fits naturally alongside the other styles in our brown leather jacket collection.

The Collar Sets the Tone

The first detail you notice is the broad, pointed shirt-style collar. It is larger and more structured than the small collars commonly found on café racer jackets, but cleaner than the wide lapels of a classic biker jacket.

Parallel rows of light tonal stitching follow the collar edge, helping it retain a defined outline against the darker leather. The collar can be worn open for a relaxed appearance or brought closer together when the front zipper is raised.

Its shape gives the jacket a slight vintage workwear character and makes it particularly suitable for layering over crew-neck T-shirts, casual shirts, roll-necks and lightweight jumpers.

Two-Way YKK Front Zipper

The centre front is secured with a two-way YKK zipper. Two zipper sliders allow the jacket to be opened conventionally from the top or released from the bottom while the upper section remains fastened.

The lower opening can provide more room around the waist when sitting, driving or walking. It also allows the wearer to adjust the jacket’s shape rather than having the closed zipper hold the entire front in one fixed position.

The exposed metal zipper complements the metal pocket snaps without making the jacket look overly decorative. Leather strips running beside the zipper create a defined front opening and are finished with visible straight stitching.

Three External Pockets with Snap Closures

The pocket arrangement is one of the jacket’s main design features. There are three pockets on the outside and one additional pocket inside.

A smaller patch pocket is positioned on the upper chest. Two larger patch pockets sit lower on the front, providing more space for everyday items. All three exterior pockets are covered by pointed flaps and secured with metal snap buttons.

The lower pockets have angular bottom corners rather than a simple rectangular shape. Double rows of visible stitching trace their outer edges, while the pointed flaps repeat the same structured geometry. This creates a balanced front without making the pockets look like separate additions.

The chest pocket is useful for smaller items that need to remain easy to reach. The two lower pockets provide more room for items such as gloves, keys or a compact wallet. An inside pocket offers a more discreet place for something you would prefer to keep beneath the closed jacket.

Visible Stitching and Panel Construction

Light brown contrast stitching is used deliberately throughout the jacket. It can be seen around the collar, pocket flaps, patch pockets, zipper facing, cuffs, shoulders and hem. The thread is light enough to define the construction but remains close to the colour of the leather, avoiding the harsh effect of bright white stitching.

Most of the prominent areas use parallel rows of straight topstitching. This is especially noticeable around the pocket edges and collar. The stitching turns neatly around the angled corners of the lower pockets and follows the pointed shape of each flap.

The back is kept much simpler than the pocketed front. A horizontal shoulder yoke runs from one side to the other, outlined by parallel stitching. Beneath it is a broad, uninterrupted back panel that allows the texture and dark-brown shading of the goatskin to remain visible.

The shoulders have a conventional set-in construction, with topstitched seams defining the transition into the sleeves. Long vertical sleeve seams provide shaping without adding decorative padding, quilting or unnecessary panels.

Snap-Fastened Cuffs

The sleeves finish with self-leather cuffs rather than knitted or elasticated ribbing. A visible metal snap fastening at each wrist allows the cuffs to close neatly and continues the hardware theme established by the three front pockets.

Because the cuffs are made from the same leather as the jacket, the sleeves maintain a clean line from shoulder to wrist. This also gives the jacket a more traditional field-jacket appearance than a bomber-style knitted cuff would provide.

A Clean, Unribbed Hem

A narrow leather panel finishes the lower edge of the jacket. The front hem appears straight and uncluttered, while the back construction includes a subtly shaped seam above the lower edge.

There is no elastic, knitted ribbing or gathered waistband. As a result, the jacket falls naturally from the chest instead of pulling tightly around the waist. The double-ended zipper can be adjusted from below if the wearer wants additional room through the lower front.

The overall length is designed to sit around the waist or upper hip, depending on the wearer’s height, torso length and chosen size.

Fully Lined with Polyester

The interior is lined with 100% polyester. The smooth lining helps the jacket move over shirts and fine knitwear without the rough underside of the leather catching against the layer beneath it.

Polyester also provides a practical barrier between the body and the leather shell. The lining is not intended to create the heavy insulation associated with shearling or thick padded winter jackets, keeping this style more suitable for mild conditions.

Best Weather for This Jacket

This jacket is recommended for dry, mild-to-cool weather of approximately 5°C to 10°C. At the lower end of that range, it can be worn over a warm shirt or lightweight jumper. Comfort will vary according to activity level, humidity, wind conditions, layering and individual sensitivity to cold.

The jacket is not waterproof. Goatskin leather should not be treated as protection against prolonged rain, and exposure to water may affect its surface, colour or texture.

It is also not windproof. The leather shell will provide more coverage than a thin fabric overshirt, but the collar, cuffs, pockets and zipper are not designed as sealed technical barriers against strong wind.

For colder conditions, a more heavily insulated style from the men’s shearling jacket collection would be a more appropriate choice.

Ways to Wear It

The dark brown colour works well with faded blue denim, black jeans, cream knitwear, olive trousers and neutral T-shirts. Its flap pockets and contrast stitching give it enough detail to carry a simple outfit without the need for heavy accessories.

Wear it open over a plain T-shirt for a relaxed look, or close the upper section of the two-way zipper while leaving a small opening at the hem. The pointed collar also sits naturally over a button-down shirt when a slightly smarter appearance is required.

The softly aged appearance and utility-pocket layout will also appeal to anyone browsing our vintage leather jackets for designs with a stronger heritage influence.
